Fresh off the heals of returning from Ecuador, where I was having an adventure, researching and writing Terror in Ecuador, Steve Wellings of Write A Revolution caught up with me to learn more about my projects. Without any further adieu, here’s the interview:
For this week’s interview we welcome over William Blackwell, a hard working author just freshly returned from an invigorating trip to Ecuador. Blackwell has released some quality self-published material in recent times including popular titles such as: Infected Rage, Assaulted Souls and his most recent offering Rule 14. Blackwell’s short, crisp stories have become a firm favourite with fans of indie writing and William recently took time out to discuss with us his body of work and all matters self-publishing.
In Assaulted Souls you invite us into a post-apocalyptic world where the rules of society are completely out of the window and life is a simple struggle for survival. How did you come up with the idea for a world like this?
I’ve always been a big fan of post-apocalyptic movies, but probably the biggest influence for Assaulted Souls was the critically-acclaimed novel Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Although the translated version I read was filled with spelling and grammar errors, it doesn’t detract from the powerful message Glukovsky delivers in the book; a bleak theme of the futility of struggling against the advent of sophisticated and destructive technology, and the ever-increasing propensity for humankind to develop and utilize ultimately self-destructive technology.
