Rule 14, a chilling exploration of the fight-or-flight response, now FREE

What do you do if you’re backed into a corner? Your life or the lives of your loved ones is threatened. Or, your livelihood is threatened? Do you fight, flee or freeze, a new possibility now incorporated into studies on the fight-or-flight mechanism?

Unless you’ve been tested, which many of us have, it’s hard to predict a given response to a life-threatening situation. And you might have reacted one way previously, but what if the new threat is far more dangerous and deadly than any previous threat? How would you respond?

Let’s start by analyzing the fight-or-flight response.

It is an often deleterious stress mechanism capable of transforming normal behavior well outside the bounds of reasonable reaction into a black abyss of violent and uncontrollable rage.

Accompanied by an adrenaline surge, the often illogical survival response enables a person to do all manner of smart, stupid, or brave things in the face of imminent danger. Some people have been known to completely black out; others have committed violent and heinous crimes, even killed, while under its forceful buzz. Later, they often have no idea of the heinous act they’ve committed. Others—if they choose flight—might flee in terror or turn to alcoholism, drug abuse, even prolonged bouts watching television as catatonic couch potatoes. Wallowing in avoidance, believing it will make all their problems disappear; a freeze response of sorts.

I’m not offering any answers necessarily. But what I can say is I’ve studied the response, conducted a series of interviews with people who have been thrust into dangerous and deadly situations where the fight-or-flight response took charge of their actions.

To say the least, the results were often not pretty.

Enter Rule 14, a chilling exploration of the fight-or-flight response. It draws you deep inside the minds of people who have lived to  tell about their harrowing experiences while under its powerfully mind-numbing and, in many cases, life-altering, buzz.

And, as an early Christmas present to my loyal readers, for a limited time Rule 14 is FREE to download on multiple e-readers. Click on the Smashwords link below to download. Thanks for your support. Enjoy!

Here’s a synopisis:

Drifting from one failed relationship and apartment to another, down-on-her-luck protagonist Dana Vilner decides a peaceful home in the country is exactly what she needs to turn things around.

So, along with boyfriend Jackson LaPrairie, she packs up her two young daughters and rents what they believe to be a paradise on Earth.

But it isn’t long before terrible things start happening; the landlord’s son begins stalking and threatening them, the landlords start behaving oddly and aggresively and events escalate to the point they fear for their lives and their sanity.

Paradise rapidly transforms into a living hell.

As events spiral out of control and the harrassment ratchets up, Dana knows it’s only a matter of time before someone becomes seriously injured or winds up dead.
